LabVIEW 2009 SP1 FPGA Module ReadmeVersion 9.0.1 December 2009 This file contains important information about the LabVIEW FPGA Module. InstallationYou can install all of your LabVIEW products—including the FPGA Module–using the LabVIEW Platform DVDs. You can find installation instructions for the FPGA Module along with activation instructions in the following locations: - LabVIEW FPGA Module Release and Upgrade Notes, which are available in your FPGA Module software kit or online at ni.com/manuals.
- LabVIEW Release Notes, which are available in your LabVIEW software kit.
- LabVIEW Platform DVDs Readme, which is available on the top-level of LabVIEW Platform DVD 1.
To request additional LabVIEW Platform DVDs, refer to the National Instruments Web site. You must install TCP. Most computers have TCP installed. If TCP is not installed, LabVIEW returns the Error Contacting Server message when it attempts to contact the LabVIEW FPGA Compile Server. You must install the current version of LabVIEW and the FPGA Module before you mass compile existing VIs. If you mass compile existing VIs before installing the current version of the FPGA Module, the following VIs might have mutation issues: Sine Wave Generator, Discrete Delay, Quantizer, Look-Up Table 1D, Analog Period Measurement, Butterworth Filter, FIFO Method Node, HDL Interface Node, Open FPGA VI Reference, Read/Write Control, Call VI, Close FPGA VI Reference, Invoke Method, Up Cast, FPGA I/O Method Node, and FPGA I/O Property Node. For Windows 7 UsersNational Instruments is committed to maintaining compatibility with Microsoft Windows technology changes. However, NI has become aware of a number of issues of potential significance regarding Microsoft Windows 7. To learn how Windows 7 affects your use of NI products, visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code windows7. The Xilinx tools used by the FPGA Module do not officially support Windows 7 32-Bit or Windows 7 64-Bit. National Instruments obtained permission from Xilinx to allow FPGA Module customers to use the tools on Windows 7 32-Bit and Windows 7 64-Bit, with the disclaimer that Xilinx will not be able to fix any bugs found that are specific to the Windows 7 32-Bit OS or Windows 7 64-Bit OS. National Instruments tested the Xilinx tools, as they are used by the FPGA Module, and did not find any issues related to Windows 7 32-Bit or Windows 7 64-Bit. If you encounter problems with the Xilinx tools specific to Windows 7 32-Bit or Windows 7 64-Bit, you might be required to compile using Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-Bit, or Windows Vista 64-Bit. National Instruments will not be liable for any problems or issues related to the use of Xilinx tools with Windows 7 32-Bit or Windows 7 64-Bit. Windows Server UsersThe FPGA Module supports the Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) editions. The FPGA Module does not support the Windows Server non-R2 editions. Compatibility and Upgrade Issues from FPGA Module 2009FPGA VIs containing the following objects are not backwards-compatible with LabVIEW 2009 when saved in LabVIEW 2009 SP1. - FIFO name controls, constants, and indicators
- Memory name controls, constants, and indicators
- Clusters containing FIFO or Memory name controls, constants, and indicators
- FIFO and Memory functions
If you save an FPGA VI containing these objects in LabVIEW 2009 SP1, the VI will be broken when you open it in LabVIEW 2009. National Instruments recommends that you save a copy of FPGA VIs in LabVIEW 2009 before opening and saving the FPGA VIs in LabVIEW 2009 SP1. Known IssuesYou can access the software and documentation known issues list online. Refer to the National Instruments Web site for an up-to-date list of known issues in the FPGA Module. Bug FixesThe following items are the IDs and titles of a subset of issues fixed in the FPGA Module 2009 SP1. Bug ID | Fixed Issue | 171812 | FPGA Look Up Table 1D hangs when calling an initialization VI. | 179899 | FPGA references in subVIs break wires when references are changed, even when properly configured. | 179651 | FIFO name controls read fixed-point values incorrectly. | 177579 | Internal overflow possible for Butterworth highpass configurations. | 177016 | FPGA Compile Status window reports incorrect device utilization (total slices and LUTs) for Spartan-3 targets |
