    Overview
SignalExpress is an interactive measurement program you can use to acquire, analyze, log, and present data from hundreds of data acquisition devices and instruments with no programming required. You can acquire signals from hardware devices installed on your computer, analyze the signals, and then send the resulting signals to hardware devices.
    System Requirements
SignalExpress runs as a 32-bit application on all operating systems.
Your system must meet the following requirements to run SignalExpress:
    • 1 GB of memory
    • 2 GB of free disk space
    • Pentium 4 processor or equivalent
    • One of the following operating systems:
      • Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)
      • Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
      • Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
      • Windows XP SP3 (32-bit)
      • Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit)
      • Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
Note  Support for Windows Server 2003 R2 may require disabling Physical Address Extension (PAE). Refer to the National Instruments website to learn how disabling PAE might affect your use of Windows Server 2003 and what actions you might have to take.

SignalExpress does not support Windows 2000/NT/Me/98/95, Windows XP (64-bit), or the Windows Server non-R2 editions.

    New Features
SignalExpress 2013 includes the following changes from SignalExpress 2012:
    Environment Enhancements
    • Logged Data Window Enhancements
      • If you rename a log in the Logged Data window, the log folder on disk renames correspondingly.
      • You can delete a log from both the project and the disk without closing the project. Right-click a log in the Logged Data window and select Delete from the context menu to display the Delete Log? dialog box. Select Remove the log from the project and delete from disk immediately option in the Delete Log? dialog box. Use the Show delete log confirmation dialog option item on the General page of the Options dialog box to determine whether the Delete Log? dialog box appears. Select Tools»Options to display the Options dialog box. When you set the Show delete log confirmation dialog option item to No, SignalExpress removes the log from the project and deletes the log from disk after you close the project.
    • Playback Enhancements

The Number of blocks option on the Playback Options tab changed from an indicator to a control. You can configure the Number of blocks option to set the number of blocks that you want to play back. If you modify the Number of blocks option, the Block size (samples) option and Stop time (s) option change correspondingly.
    Logging Enhancements
    • Importing Non-SignalExpress TDMS files

You can import TDMS files that you create outside of SignalExpress. Select File»Import»Logged Signals from TDMS Files to choose the TDMS log files that you want to import. If the TDMS files you choose contain non-SignalExpress TDMS files, the Convert Non-SignalExpress TDMS File dialog box appears. In this dialog box, specify the non-SignalExpress TDMS files you want to import and where to import the files. You can then convert and import the non-SignalExpress TDMS files.
    • Copying Log Files Next to Project

Configure the Copy log files next to project file when importing option item on the Logging page to specify whether to save a copy of the log files next to the project when you import log files. Select Tools»Options to display the Options dialog box and select Logging from the Category list to display the Logging page.
    Step Enhancements
    • New Steps
      • Run LabVIEW 2013 (32-bit) VI step
    • Changed Steps
      • In the Zero Offset step, you can configure not to export offsets ready and avg. counter by removing the checkmarks in the Export offsets ready? and Export avg. counter? checkboxes on the Input/Output tab.
      • In the Load from LVM step, you can specify the unit type for the y-axis or x-axis of the imported signal as decibel. Select Decibel from the Y axis unit or X axis unit pull-down menu to specify the decibel reference level.

    IDFixed Issue
173678Import from ASCII step: User specified dt and Input X values combo results in failed data import
313704Renamed log file cannot be reopened in SignalExpress
375314When using the conditional OR with 2 start conditions and a duration stop condition, data logging continues even after duration stop has timed out
378124Can't select "Other" delimiter in "Load from ASCII" step
Automating the Installation of NI Products
You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software.
If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software.
For more information, refer to the following KnowledgeBase articles:
    • For more information on silent installations of individual NI products, refer to KB 4CJDP38M, Automating the Installation of a Single Installer.
    • For more information on silent installations of suited NI products, such as NI Developer Suite, refer to KB 4GGGDQH0, Automating the Installation of a Suited Installer.
    • To determine what version of NI Installers your product contains, refer to KB 4CJDR18M, How Can I Determine the Type and Version of My National Instruments Installer?.
How to Use NI Software with Microsoft Windows 8
When you install National Instruments software on Microsoft Windows 8, you will notice a few additional tiles on the Start screen, including shortcuts to NI application software products such as NI LabVIEW, Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and the new NI Launcher.
    Using NI Launcher
NI Launcher helps you find and launch installed NI products. It provides you with a method of finding NI products similar to the Start menu in previous versions of Microsoft Windows. To use NI Launcher, click the NI Launcher tile on the Start screen. NI Launcher launches the desktop and opens a menu containing a list of NI products. Click any NI product to launch it.
Note  Unlike previous versions of Microsoft Windows, MAX does not appear as a desktop shortcut. You can launch MAX either from the Start screen or from within NI Launcher.
    Pinning Frequently Used Applications
For convenience, you can pin your most-used NI applications, such as MAX, to either the Start screen or the Taskbar on the desktop, as necessary:
    Current ApplicationIcon LocationPin to Action
Windows 8 DesktopDesktop TaskbarRight-click application and select Pin to Taskbar
Windows 8 DesktopStart screenRight-click application and select Pin to Start
Windows 8 Start screenDesktop TaskbarRight-click application and select Pin to taskbar from the menu bar on the bottom of the screen
    Finding All Programs
If you want to find a particular application or related files, such as documentation files, from the Start screen, you can access all installed files by right-clicking anywhere on the Start screen and selecting All apps. A list of all installed software and related files appears, in alphabetical order by creator or type.
